CHRISTMAS WREATH and ALTAR MEMORIALPulpit and St. Patrick at Christmas time

Christmas trees and wreaths have become a part of our tradition in celebrating the birth of the baby Jesus. The Tradition over the years has produced symbols to remind us of the birth of Jesus and God’s Love for us. The Evergreen is a symbol of everlasting life. The Star on top of the tree represents the Star of Bethlehem, which guided the Wise Men. The Lights represent Jesus as the Divine Light that every Christian should follow, like the Wise Men. The Gift Bow symbolizes Christians’ commitment to everlasting goodwill. The Candy Cane is the Shepherd’s crook that help bring back the lost sheep. The Wreath is symbolic of the Eternal Love from God to all faithful persons.

In the spirit of the Advent and Christmas seasons, we invite you to consider memorializing your family or a loved one on one of our side chapel altars or beautiful Christmas wreaths that line the main areas of the Cathedral this year. The name of your family or loved one will be memorialized, on each altar or Christmas wreath, as a reminder – to more than one million visitors this Christmas – of your friendship and partnership with St. Patrick’s Cathedral. These names will also be prayed over during our Christmas Novena.

We could not think of a more meaningful way to honor your family or loved one at a time of such joy and renewal than through this type of gift! And as a thank you for your generosity, we will invite you and your loved ones to an intimate Mass and reception in our Lady's Chapel, presided by the Rector of the Cathedral, Msgr. Robert T. Ritchie, to celebrate all the loved ones we remembered this Christmas.

Each year we are very grateful to the families that choose this opportunity because it offers much needed financial support toward the increased expenses we incur from the increase in visitors. Thank you for helping St. Patrick's Cathedral continue to serve everyone.
